"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him."
James 1:5Finding a church isn't simply about choosing one with the best music, the nearest location or the most activities. It is about seeking a community where you can worship God, grow as a follower of Jesus Christ, and become part of the life of the Church.
Ask God to guide you with wisdom, humility and discernment. Pray that He would lead you to a church where you can know Him more deeply, grow in faith, and faithfully serve alongside other believers.
-
"And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers."
Acts 2:42The earliest Christians devoted themselves to knowing Christ, learning from God's Word, worshipping together, praying together and encouraging one another in faith.
As you explore different churches, ask whether they encourage people to:
Know and follow Jesus Christ.
Read, teach and apply the Bible faithfully.
Worship God with reverence and joy.
Pray together regularly.
Love and care for one another.
Grow in holiness and discipleship.
Share the good news of Jesus with others.
Serve their local community.
Different churches may express these things in different ways, but Christ should remain at the centre of everything they do.

As you visit different churches, you may encounter unfamiliar beliefs, traditions, ways of worship or theological language. Before making assumptions, take time to listen carefully and ask respectful questions. Understanding why a church believes or practises something is often just as important as knowing what they believe.
The Christians in Berea were commended because they received the teaching they heard with eagerness while carefully examining the Scriptures to see if it was true (Acts 17:11). Their example reminds us to approach new ideas with both humility and discernment.
Listening respectfully does not mean you must agree with everything you hear. Likewise, disagreeing with a church does not require dismissing those who attend it. Honest conversations carried out with grace can deepen understanding, even where disagreements remain.
As you continue your journey, seek to grow in both truth and love—listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, and prayerfully weighing what you hear in the light of Scripture.

Throughout history, Christians have agreed on many essential truths while also holding different convictions about aspects of theology, worship and church life. Today, you will find differences not only between Protestant, Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches, but also within each of those traditions.
It is normal to encounter differing opinions, and sometimes strong disagreements, about these matters. Rather than becoming discouraged, allow this to encourage deeper study, prayer and conversation.
Spend time reading the Scriptures, asking thoughtful questions and speaking with mature Christians whom you know and trust. Listen carefully to different perspectives and seek to understand why people believe what they do before reaching your own conclusions.
Christians of Swansea seeks to serve Christians from across the historic Christian traditions represented in Swansea. Churches included on this website come from different backgrounds and convictions, and inclusion should not be understood as an endorsement of every doctrine, practice or ministry of an individual church.
Likewise, there may be faithful churches that are not yet listed simply because we are unaware of them or have not yet gathered their information.
Our hope is that this website serves as a starting point for your journey, encouraging informed, prayerful and gracious exploration.
If you notice information that is inaccurate or incomplete, or believe a church should be added or amended, we would be grateful if you contact us.

Every church is unique, and one of the best ways to understand its beliefs and community is simply to ask.
Most churches are happy to answer questions before you visit, and healthy conversations can often bring greater clarity than reading a website alone.
You may wish to ask about:
Beliefs
What does your church believe?
Do you have a Statement of Faith or similar document?
How does your church understand the authority of Scripture?
How are important theological questions approached?
Worship
What happens during a typical service?
What style of worship should I expect?
How is Communion celebrated, and who may receive it?
Leadership
How is the church led?
How are leaders chosen?
What is your understanding of the roles of pastors, priests, elders, bishops or deacons?
What is your understanding of the role of women in ministry and leadership?
Baptism
How is baptism understood?
Who is baptised?
Do you practise infant baptism, believer's baptism or both?
Church Life
Are there Bible studies or small groups?
How can people become involved?
What opportunities are there to serve?
Is there support for children, young people, students, families and older adults?
Remember that asking questions is not being argumentative—it's an important part of understanding a church and discerning whether it is the right place for you.

No church is perfect because every church is made up of imperfect people.
You may find things you appreciate immediately and other things that take time to understand. One visit rarely tells the whole story.
Give yourself time to get to know the people, listen carefully to the teaching and continue praying as you discern whether God is calling you to become part of that church community.
-
Christian churches may differ in worship style, music, liturgy, preaching, prayer, Communion, baptism, leadership and other aspects of church life.
These differences often reflect centuries of Christian history and the distinct ways different traditions have understood and practised their faith.
Understanding these similarities and differences can help you ask thoughtful questions, appreciate the wider Christian Church and make informed decisions as you continue your journey.

While most Christians are called to be committed members of one local church, we are also part of the wider Body of Christ.
Building friendships with believers from other churches can encourage your faith, broaden your understanding and remind us that, despite our differences, we share the calling to know Christ and make Him known.
Even if a particular church does not become your church home, it may still be a place where you attend a conference, prayer gathering, concert, community event or outreach activity. Likewise, someone you meet may be looking for a church with a different style, tradition or ministry focus, and your knowledge of churches across Swansea may help point them in a helpful direction.
Our prayer is that Christians across Swansea would increasingly know one another, pray for one another, encourage one another and work together wherever possible, while remaining faithful to their own convictions and local church communities.

Choosing a church is rarely a decision that needs to be rushed. Give yourself time to pray, visit, ask questions and reflect. If possible, attend more than once, speak with members of the congregation and continue seeking God's guidance.
Wherever God leads you, our prayer is that you will become part of a church where you can worship Him faithfully, grow in your knowledge of Jesus Christ, serve others with joy and encourage fellow believers as part of His Church.
